A Pride party held at Birmingham’s Attic Brew Co. has raised over £1,000 for the charity, SHELTER. The event, which was held on Thursday 23rd May with drag performances from Virgo and Kenya Knott has raised money through ticket sales, a raffle, donations, and the auctioning of a piece of Joe Lycett artwork, all to support the housing and homelessness charity, SHELTER.

Drag performer, Virgo explained, "At Shelter, many of their clients are from the LGBTQIA+ community, with the housing emergency discriminating against our community. They have previously found that 40% of respondents to clients surveyed are gay/lesbian, 49% are bisexual, and 60% self-describe their gender."
They added: "This is a cause that’s very close to my heart. I couldn’t be more proud to be able to give something back to those who need it, who have helped me. LGBTQ+ people, particularly those who are 25+ and/or trans-identifying , face some of the harshest (and unnecessary) barriers accessing homeless support services. Birmingham in particular has fallen behind. However, I’m glad I can share my experiences and platform to serve a greater purpose to address these issues and do some good knowing it’s making a difference! Drag may not be for everyone, but it DOES change lives."
If you didn't attend the event, you can still show your support and donate to SHELTER online!
