Nottingham Trans Pride was held on Saturday 21st June 2025, beginning with a march from Hockley's Broadway Cinema at 11am, and speeches in the Old Market Square from noon. The event was well attended with over 1000 people from the trans community and LGBTQ+ community as a whole, as well as allies, showing up to support trans rights, joy and pride.

Hockley, the area in which the event was held, is an area deeply rooted in Nottingham’s queer history; a connection that still stands to this day. During the 90s, Hockley’s Mushroom Bookshop was one of the only places in Nottingham to sell Gay Times, and on 15th January 1994, the shop was attacked by a group of fascists, with 30 people later arrested in connection.

Following the incident, members of the community came together to hold the Nottingham United Against Racism and Fascism demonstration; marking one of the first predominately LGBTQ+ protests held in Nottingham. Notts Pride explained that: “It echoes the spirit of Pride marches today.”

Notts Trans Pride was not the only demonstration taking place in the city today (21st June). On the same day, the fringe right-wing party, UKIP, held a rally which was contested by Nottingham Stand Up To Racism and Trade Unionists, who were joined by many of those who had attended the earlier Trans Pride March.

Tensions were reportedly high between the UKIP and counter-protest, however, only one arrest was made.

Superintendent Paul Burrows, Silver Commander for the operation that oversaw the protests, said: “Overall, the vast majority of people conducted themselves peacefully and engaged positively with officers, however we did make one arrest in relation to an attempted assault on a police officer.

“I would like to thank the vast majority of members of the public who attended for carrying out their right to rally and protest in a peaceful manner.”

Officers were also in the city to facilitate a safe Nottingham Trans Pride march which passed without incident and was followed later in the day by a Trans Makers Market from 3pm.Then, in the evening the Gladdrags official after party, hosted by Marilyn Sane and Nana Arthole, took place from 8pm.

Nottingham Trans Pride was fully supported by Notts Pride committee who explained: “Notts Pride will always stand in solidarity with our Transgender community.”

Notts Pride itself will be held at Sneinton Market next month, on Saturday 26th July from 1pm-6pm. The event is free to attend and features a mainstage with headliners including: Rileasa, Jason Kwan, Tom Aspaul, Girlband!, Rob Green, and Su I Think; hosted by Marilyn Sane, Liv, and Nana Arthole.
