Right wing political party, Reform UK, plan to ban Pride flags (alongside several others, including the Ukrainian flag) from being flown from council buildings under their control. According to the chairman, Zia Yusuf, they plan to ban councils from displaying any flags except the Union, county and St George's flags on council buildings.

Following local elections in various areas across the UK, Reform won 677 seats and took control of 10 councils, including several in the West and East Midlands regions. Reform UK now have control of Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, North Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, as well as councils in other areas of the UK including, Durham, Kent, Lancashire, and Doncaster.

George Jones, who runs events for Reform, was caught on camera last year during an election campaign calling a Pride flag displayed on a police car a “f**king degenerate flag”.

“You see that f**king degenerate flag on the front bonnet? What are the old bill doing promoting that crap? They should be out catching n*nces, not promoting the f*****s,” he was reported as saying.

Under the proposed ban, none of the council buildings under Reform will be able to display pride flags, which many councils now do in celebration of an area’s pride events or during periods such as Pride Month or LGBTQ+ History Month.
