Man arrested over assaults on trans rights protesters

A man in his 30s was arrested on Monday night after an incident on New Street on Saturday (26th April) afternoon in which several people were pushed and spat at. The incident occurred following the trans rights protest in Victoria Square, organised by Not Your Scapegoat alongside other trans rights activists and groups in the city. After the static protest outside the Council House, a group of the protesters marched down New Street together, chanting, when they encountered the man who began pushing and spitting at several of the members.

West Midlands Police said the suspect would remain in their custody while they continue with their enquiries which includes officers making contact with the victims. Anyone who saw what happened, can contact us via 101 or Live Chat quoting crime reference number 20/222244/25.
