Project 93, a charity supporting people living with HIV in the Staffordshire region, have announced the details for this year’s World AIDS Day Vigil in North Staffordshire. Due to be held in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent on Monday 1st December, the event will commemorate World AIDS Day, which is held annually across the globe to remember those lost to HIV and AIDS, and to raise awareness of testing, prevention, and the ongoing stigma face by those living with HIV today.

Those attending the vigil in Stoke-on-Trent are invited to meet at Fountain Square, Hanley (ST1 1NP) at 5.30pm for a short, reflective vigil. Following this, there will be a community gathering from 6.30pm at the Dudson Centre. In the warmth of the centre, attendees will be able to share a hot meal (with vegan and gluten-free-options available). There will also be a screening of a short documentary on HIV, which aims “to spark conversation” and provide “a safe space to be together.”

Sharing the event in their newsletter, Project 93 (which has been serving and supporting the community since 1993) said: “This is our moment to pause, remember the friends and loved ones we have lost, and stand in solidarity against the stigma that still exists today.”
