After being informed of a rumour circulating the Gay Village about the possible closure of The Fox, Midlands Rainbow followed up with both Southside District and the bar’s owner, Andrew Bentley-King to confirm or dispel the notion.

Andrew was quick to dispel the myth, saying “I am happy to announce that The Fox has no plans to close in the foreseeable future." He added that it was possible that the rumour could be a result of people seeing all the flats that are being built around the area.
Julia Robinson, Southside District Manager (covering Chinatown, Theatreland and the Gay Village) added: “The Fox will be here for a long while, we hope, and there are no plans to close it. It’s a vital part of our Gay Village, but if anyone is worried the BEST way to secure its future forever is to go often, take [your] friends and buy a drink or two!”
The Fox on Lower Essex Street is an LGBTQ+ bar that has been running for over 25 years with Andrew taking ownership of the venue in 1997, and it hopes to be around for many more years to come.
