Redditch Pride CIC, which runs the annual Pride event in the town, are set to host a summer Pride Fête. The family-friendly event which caters to all ages will be held at Arrow Valley Lake Boat House at the end of August.

The fête will offer food and drinks, tombola, raffles, lake boat rides, a funfair arcade. The location has plenty of park space and play areas too. On stage, live music, DJ performance, Karaoke and drag games such as bingo will be compered by drag performer, Philli Mi Up.

The event has, unfortunately, received some backlash, with negative comments made online. Amid rising LGBTQ+ hate, many organisations and LGBTQ+ individuals have noted the return of the harmful ‘groomers’ rhetoric which was prevalent during the late 80s and 90s.

“We’ve unfortunately seen a small amount of negativity online, including some unfair comments about the event being held near a children’s park,” explains Jamie Freemantle, organiser of Redditch Pride, “But the fête is, and always has been, about bringing people together, creating a safe and welcoming space, and celebrating our community. We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone there and enjoying a fantastic day together.

“The fête is about bringing our community together, creating something joyful for everyone to enjoy, and celebrating the people who make our town so special. We want it to be a welcoming day where families, friends and neighbours can come together, have fun and feel proud of the community we share.”

Redditch Pride Fête will be held on Saturday 23rd August from 11am. The event can be found at The Boathouse Café, Arrow Valley Visitor Centre & Lake Battens Drive, Redditch, B98 0LJ. It is free to attend for all, and more information including registering your interest, accessibility, and parking can be found online.
