Joe Lycett wins BAFTA hosting award

Comedian Joe Lycett has been awarded at this year's BAFTAs for hosting his Birmingham-based show, Late Night Lycett. The 2024 British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA) were held on Sunday 12th May at Royal Festival Hall in London.

Lycett graced the red carpet and accepted his award dressed in an elaborate silver Elizabeth-style ruff collar and cape after losing a bet on Late Night Lycett in which he promised he would attend the awards dressed a Elizabeth I, if his aunties' Instagram account @LateNightAunties reached 100,000 followers. The outfit was created by Yashana Malhotra @outofyourgaze, and the collar was created by Shoni @officialshoni, with styling by Krishan Parmar @krishanparmar_ 


 The comedian was nominated for two awards. The first for ‘Comedy Entertainment’ alongside The Graham Norton Show, Rob & Romesh Vs, and Would I Lie to You?, which was awarded to Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan


The second nomination, for which he was awarded a BAFTA, was in the ‘Entertainment Performance’ category for hosting Late Night Lycett. He was nominated alongside Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (better known as the duo Ant and Dec) for I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of HereBig Zuu for Big Zuu’s Big Eats, Graham Norton for The Graham Norton Show, Hannah Waddingham for the Eurovision Song Contest, and Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan for Rob & Romesh Vs.


Lenny Rush presented the awarded to Joe Lycett who reiterated that he'd lost a bet before thanking a long list of people who had supported him including "the people of Birmingham".
