As part of an upcoming new series for Sky Max, comedian, presenter and Brummy bab, Joe Lycett, has bought together the ‘United States of Birmingham’; an official internationally recognised ‘Treaty of Friendship’ between a group of places all named Birmingham.
Joe travelled thousands of miles across the US (with a film crew), meeting mayors, council people, citizens, historic societies and more to get them to sign the treaty which has now been counter signed by Birmingham UK’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Ken Wood, thus etching the treaty into history.
There are 15 Birminghams across the world, 13 of which are in the United States of America. The United States of Birmingham connects the West Midland’s Birmingham with (almost) all the other Birminghams of the world including the smallest Birmingham in New Jersey, and the largest Birmingham in the state of Alabama.
“It’s no secret that Joe Lycett adores Brum but his hometown is having a tough time of it. In his self-appointed role as the second city’s ambassador and with the blessing of the actual Lord Mayor of Birmingham, he’s on a mission to put Birmingham back on the map,” explains the press release from Sky.
Described by Joe as “One of the best experiences of my life,” viewers can watch his journey in the four-part series ‘Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham’ on Sky Max and NOW from 22nd April.
