Coventry’s Viola joins Drag Race UK cast

The cast for series 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has been announced and among them is Coventry’s own Viola. Viewers may recognise Viola from another drag competition show, Queen of the Universe, which focusses on music and vocal talents but now, Viola will be putting more skills to the test, competing on Drag Race alongside a cast of performers including: Bones, Bonnie Ann Clyde, Catrin Feelings (who will be performing at Walsall Pride this weekend), Chai T Grande, Elle Vosque, Nyongbella, Paige Three, Pasty, Sally TM, Silllexa Diction, and Tayris Mongardi.

Viola has been doing drag for four years, and based her drag name on the instrument she is known for playing, the violin. Viola is known as the UK’s only violin-playing and singing drag queen, and her drag career came from her love of musical theatre.

Speaking in her ‘Meet the Queens’ introduction, Viola said: “I’ve got many strings to my bow; singing tick, dancing tick, sewing tick, personality tick. And then things I’m scared of? Anything related to comedy.”

She adds: “I want to bring a whole new genre of drag to the UK and to the world. So, that is why I want to be the UK’s next Drag Superstar.”
