BookKind, supporting the LGBT Foundation

BookKind is a new literary shop with a charitable heart, where 10% of every sale is donated to a good cause. Among their charitable partners is the LGBT Foundation; a charity that supports the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ people. This Pride Month, BookKind celebrates its first birthday, and since launching in June 2025, BookKind has raised over £6,500 for charity through its pledge to donate 10% of every sale, with a proportion having been received by LGBT Foundation.

Shoppers using BookKind simply need to choose the LGBT Foundation (or one of the other charitable partners including: Booker Prize Foundation, Dementia UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, Maggie's, Mental Health Foundation, Read for Good, RHS, Runnymede Trust, Surfers Against Sewage, and War Child UK) to make their book buying contribute towards future charitable donations.

The idea for BookKind came from a “growing appetite for socially-conscious book buying”. It was launched in June 2025 by Monwell Limited, an established online book retailer.

“BookKind is a new purpose-led online bookshop for readers who care about both books and the world around them, combining the joy of discovering great books with meaningful social impact,” explains a spokesperson for the retailer. “For every purchase, 10% of the order value is donated to one of BookKind’s charity partners.

“BookKind aims to empower consumers to feel good about where they're spending their money, so the choice of which charity we donate their money to is left in their hands each time they checkout.”

Sara Montgomery, BookKind’s founder and CEO explains: "Launching BookKind represented a significant leap of faith for our small team. From the outset, our mission has been to combine commercial success with meaningful social impact, and being able to make such meaningful donations to the causes closest to our hearts makes me proud beyond measure.”

The partnership between BookKind and the LGBT Foundation launched on National Coming Out Day, 11th October 2025, and continues to this day. Readers can discover a curated collection of the best LGBTQ books – stories that celebrate diversity, identity and Pride – via LGBT Foundation's dedicated page at BookKind.

"As a queer person, finding an LGBTQ+ charity to partner with BookKind was deeply important to me. We're proud to support the LGBT Foundation, making it easy for readers to donate every time they buy books online. The BookKind site is home to a carefully curated selection of the best and latest queer books - so take a browse and discover your next great read." says Sara Montgomery.

Sarah Miguel, Director of Fundraising and Marketing, LGBT Foundation adds: "For the LGBTQ+ community, books have always been a way to represent, affirm and imagine a brighter, more equal future. We're grateful for BookKind's support through this partnership, helping champion LGBTQ+ authors whilst supporting a crucial cause. With BookKind by our side, we're supported to work towards a future where queer liberation creates meaningful change and a fairer society for all.”
