Famous faces including Coronation Street actor Shelley King, The Traitors UK contestants Diane CarsonMiles Asteri and Theo Mayne, and Married at First Sight UK stars Zoe Clifton, Jenna Robinson and Matt Jameson marched alongside Causeway staff at Liverpool Pride (20th July) to help us raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ community’s increased risk of modern slavery and human trafficking.

A press release from Causeway explains: “Traffickers and abusers often target those who are vulnerable in some way, and LGBTQ+ people are disproportionally vulnerable to homelessness, mental health issues, violence and blackmail.

“There are 64 counties around the world with laws that criminalise homosexuality. Traffickers use this fear of exposure to blackmail their victims, or coerce them into performing sexual acts or into forced labour.  They will often then use the fear of arrest to silence them and prevent them from seeking help.”

Miles Asteri, said: “Marching with Causeway at Pride in Liverpool is a true honour.  With modern slavery sadly being as prevalent as it is, it’s essential that we come together to raise awareness and drive the change needed for those affected.  Anybody could find themselves at risk of modern slavery, and the LGBTQ+ community are one of the groups in particular who can often be targeted.  The stories I’ve heard of individuals being exploited and abused in this way breaks my heart.  Every single person has the right to live their life freely and safely, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help create change for survivors, and for all of society”
