Birmingham LGBT – a charity which supports the community through various activities and services – has received a donation from The Cadbury Foundation. As part of their 200-year anniversary, Cadbury have donated a generous sum of £8,000 to support the charity’s services for LGBTQ+ people.

Cadbury which is based in Bournville, Birmingham, and is now owned by Mondelēz International, has a long history in the Midlands. It all began in 1824, when John Cadbury opened his grocer's shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham where among his goods, he sold cocoa and drinking chocolate, which he prepared himself using a pestle and mortar. In 1895, George Cadbury (John’s son) bought 120 acres and began to build Bournville village, where a factory and office space still remain to this day.
The Cadbury Foundation that made the donation to Birmingham LGBT was first set up in 1935 in memory of the Cadbury brothers, George and Richard. Originally, the foundation was known as ‘The Charitable Brothers Trust’, and its aim was to continue their charitable work, improving the lives of their community.
In October, Birmingham LGBT has not only thanked The Cadbury Foundation for their donation but also Howden Insurance, who made a donation of £893.20 which will also support the charity’s work and services.
