Birmingham LGBT Appoints New Chair

Birmingham’s LGBT+ centre has appointed a new chair of the board of trustees. Steve Ball will replace Ian Hyde as Birmingham LGBT’s new chair after Hyde stepped down after four years in the role.

An announcement from Birmingham LGBT reads: “Steve was the founding Chair of Birmingham Pride Community Trust which was established in 2002 and is now known as Birmingham LGBT. He was instrumental in launching the SHOUT queer arts festival and has remained active within the city’s LGBT community ever since.”

 

Steve Ball has also been the Director of Birmingham Arts School since 2022, was Head of Arts for Birmingham City Council from 2001 to 2003, and Associate Director at the Birmingham REP from 2003 to 2021.

 

Talking about his appointment as Chair for Birmingham LGBT, Steve Ball said “I am delighted to once again Chair Birmingham LGBT. These are exciting times for the organisation as we prepare to move into a new building at the heart of the Gay Village. I remain committed to working with our dedicated staff team to continue to provide and develop services that meets the need of our diverse community.”

 

Steph Keeble, Director of Birmingham LGBT added: “We are sorry to see Ian Hyde leave the organisation after four years as the chair and would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication. We would also like to welcome Steve Ball to the role and are looking forward to working with him.”
